Category: Athlete
Sport: Women's Hockey & Women's Fastball
Institution: Seneca College
Inducted: 2005

In three seasons, Angela James established herself as one of the top players of her era in women’s hockey. James was a three-time OCAA scoring leader including a remarkable 50 goal season in 1984-85, a great feat in itself, but when measured against the fact the she was playing defense, the feat is magnified yet again. She was also named as the OCAA Women’s Hockey MVP all three years of play, in addition to being a two-time OCAA All-Star and the OCAA’s All-Time Leading Scorer.

James was an outstanding all-around athlete. Angela also excelled in Women’s Fastball, where she led the Scouts to the inaugural OCAA Fastball Championship in 1981-82 and was named an OCAA All-Star in 1984.

For her athletic accomplishments, James was twice named Seneca Female Athlete of the Year. Upon graduation, Seneca retired James’ sweater and she was inducted into the Seneca Varsity Hall of Fame. In 2004, Angela was honoured by the college as a whole, with the presentation of a Seneca College Alumni of Distinction Award.

In the greater hockey community, Angela is well known as a pioneer to the Canadian Women’s Hockey Program. Angela represented Canada for seven years, winning seven World Championships. In addition, in 1982 James lead Team Canada to a Women’s World Roller Hockey Championship. Today, James continues to contribute to the OCAAA, as a Sport Coordinator in the Department of Athletics & Recreation at Seneca College.
