Under Doug’s leadership, the Mohawk Skiing team won 31 Gold Medals in Team, Individual and Combined disciplines at the Provincial Championships. Doug was named Coach of the Year for his efforts three times (1974, 1975, 1978) and served the OCAA as the Skiing Sport Convenor for five years. Doug was also Mohawk’s Tennis Coach 1971-72 and coached the Varsity Men’s Rowing Club from 1973-76.
A professor at Mohawk College in Leisure Education and Social Services for 28 years, Doug used his position to constantly encourage and educate his students on the value of active participation. While the competition of varsity skiing was his passion, Doug was instrumental in developing and encouraging student involvement as the Coordinator of Intramurals at Mohawk from 1971–1978. In support of this role, he served as a founding member on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Intramural Recreation Association (CIRA). Doug was inducted in the Mohawk Mountaineer Hall of Fame in 2003.
