Seneca dominated the league that season, going 12 – 0 and scoring 113 goals while allowing just 10. At the 1992 and 1994 World Championships she received the Directorate Award as the top defenseman. Heaney and her Team Canada teammates won the silver medal at the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, and then brought home the gold medal from the 2002 Games in Salt Lake, after which Heaney retired from the national team.
