Hugh Lynn began his OCAA coaching career at Algonquin College in 1989. His successful career with the Thunder resulted in an impressive 92-29 win-loss record, which culminated in him twice receiving OCAA Coach of the Year honours (1992-93, 1997-98). During his tenure at Algonquin, the Thunder won the OCAA Division II Championship, three east region championships, three bronze medals and two fourth place finishes at the OCAA Provincial Championships.

Lynn is credited with the turnaround of a program which went on to be a perennial contender within the OCAA ranks.
