Martin Kerstens was a member of Sheridan’s first OCAA championship team in 1978-79, the first of two consecutive gold medals for the Bruins. In the ’78-’79 season, Kerstens was named to the OCAA all-star team and was selected as an All-Canadian. He was also voted the league’s best spiker.

During the Bruins’ second championship season in 1979-80, Kerstens was named league MVP, CCAA All-Canadian, team MVP, and Sheridan’s Male Athlete of the Year.

In 2000, he was named to the OCAA Men’s Volleyball All-Millennium team.
