ST.LAWRENCE KINGSTON GOES UNDEFEATED TO WIN OCAA TOUCH FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
« Back

October 17, 2005 - The Touch Football trophy has gone back to the St.Lawrence Vikings (Kingston) for the first time since 2001-02. In a game played in front of an exciting crowd at Durham’s Civic Fields the Vikings overcame the Mohawk Mountaineers (Hamilton) to win the Championship 32-29.

"It was an awesome tournament. There were some pretty amazing things," said Vikings head coach James Wallace. “I just didn't think we had the horses to do it this year. Because we were so young, I thought maybe next year but they were big believers in themselves, and they were believers in the systems.”

The Vikings went undefeated in round robin play with a 5-0 record, and with this win earned their fifth overall Touch Football Championship. The offensive MVP award for most outstanding player in the championship game was awarded to quarterback Steven Douglas of St.Lawrence College.

“Steve Douglas was phenomenal,” said Wallace. “It was just a blessing to have him back this year. He was probably the big factor in why we were as successful this year as we were."

Mohawk completed the round robin 4-1. Receiver Brad Dilks of Mohawk was awarded the defensive Tournament MVP award.

In the consolation match, the defending champion Niagara Knights overpowered the St.Lawrence Sharks from Cornwall 35-3 to capture the bronze medal. Kwame Goka was named the player of the game for the Knights while Dan David was named the player of the game for the Sharks.
