Sports Information and Promotions Coordinator
Seneca College (Newnham Campus)

Reporting to the Manager, Athletics, Recreation and Sport Centre Operations, the incumbent is responsible for designing, planning and implementing the Department of Athletics and Recreations Sports Marketing promotions, publicity and communications strategies to all Seneca campuses, varsity alumni and the extended Seneca community (GTA); provincial and national sports governing bodies, and OCAA and CCAA member institutions. This includes the maintenance of athletics and sport centre operations web sites, the overseeing of recreation and fitness web and social media sites and the design and maintenance of special web sites for OCAA/CCAA special hostings; sports writing for media releases, sport community and college publications and the organization and delivery of spectator events. The incumbent supervises student promotional and special event assistants, photographers and videographers. This position is responsible for the tracking of varsity statistics and standings for varsity coaches' game preparation and provides sports information to other colleges, provincial and national sports' organizations, the public and the media. The incumbent is Seneca's representative on the provincial college sports marketing committee (OCAA) and sports information committee (OCSIDA). The position liaises with Event Sport Marketing and SCA Faculty to identify, mentor, monitor and evaluate academic projects conducted with a focus on enhancing the spectator experience. The incumbent develops and implements strategies, consistent with college requirements, to secure corporate sponsors and fundraising projects in support of athletic scholarships and/or to seek product in kind.

Specific Accountabilities:
  • Responsible for the annual design and implementation of a Sport Marketing plan to promote and support college wide athletic and recreation activities to Seneca students and the extended Seneca community (GTA).

  • Sets goals and strategies to create awareness of Athletics and Recreation; works with SAA to identify annual marketing themes, creates art work, slogans, promotional materials to achieve goals; design, layout, publication and distribution of Varsity Year Book, CD, Varsity Programs for 15 sports, special event and high school tournament programs and first year student information brochures.

  • Develops multimedia promotional materials; DVDs, power point presentations, social media, facebook and web postings.

  • Plans, organizes and oversees Varsity and Campus Recreation promotional special events and sits on college wide committees with Student Services and Residence for orientations, open houses for Seneca students and high school students, head start programs (Gr. 11 events) residence events. 

  • Develops for approval and monitors a sports marketing budget; researches and initiates purchases and following through with payment of purchases.

  • Organizes, monitors and ensures the readiness, in good functioning order, the media equipment for photography shoots, game video taping and tapes; including scheduling and overseeing the signing out and returning of video equipment and tripods by coaches for away games; and oversees the prompt transfer of game tape to DVDs for coaches and athletes. 

  • Ensures Markham, King and York campuses have current promotional materials that promote recreational and varsity activities, report results and highlight varsity athletes at their home campus.

  • Represents Seneca on OCAA sports information and marketing committee regarding OCAA sponsorship and game promotional requirements.

  • Recruits, supervises part time workers to: post and maintain attractive and up to date bulletin and message boards at NH (internal and external); mascot appearances, work special events, home games and promotional activities, compile web site materials, recruits and assigns student photographers to shoot varsity games and campus recreation activities. 

  • Web site design and maintenance for Varsity and Sport Centre Operations sites; oversees campus recreation NH, King, Markham and S@Y sites; designs, develops and updates web sites for CCAA/OCAA championships and special events hosted by Seneca.


  • Qualifications:
  • 2 year diploma in a relevant field such as Sports Marketing and/or Sport Administration (with an emphasis on Sports Marketing), Creative Advertising, Marketing or equivalent.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and training in Web Site Design and Management.

  • Minimum of 2 years progressive work experience in sport marketing, utilizing computer and web site design; creative writing and design skills developing promotional materials (posters, pamphlets etc.).

  • Demonstrated experience coordinating and managing sport event Videography and Photography.

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills interacting with the College's diverse population.

  • Must have good organizational, event coordination and follow-through skills to complete projects and assignments. 

  • Must have the ability to work independently, organize workflow, prioritize and complete tasks and sound judgement in resolving day-to-day matters under pressure and within time deadlines.

  • Excellent communication (written, listening, verbal) skills and ability to interact with the college's multi-cultural/racial/able staff, clients and public.


  • START DATE: ASAP
    HOURLY RATE RANGE: Payband I -- $29.67 - $34.39 hourly
    HOURS: 40 hours per week (overtime as required, weeknights & weekends)
    Sept to March, Mon-Fri 11am-8pm; April to Aug, Mon-Fri 8:30am-5:30pm
