BRAMPTON, Ont. - All roads in Ontario Colleges Athletic
Association (OCAA) men's basketball will run towards Brampton in
the 2013-14 season, as the Sheridan College Athletics and
Recreation Department proudly announced today that they will host
the 2014 OCAA Men's Basketball Championship.
"Our staff has a wealth of experience in hosting high-calibre
events, so we're looking forward to putting on a great championship
for the OCAA community," Sheridan athletic director Jim
Flack said. "We have an extraordinary home base here and
we know that we will have a great showing of support for all of the
student-athletes that are competing."
"This is a tremendous opportunity for us to showcase the best of
the best in OCAA basketball to our students, faculty and staff here
at Sheridan, as well as to the greater communities in Peel and
Halton," added Sheridan basketball coordinator Tahir
Khan. "We will do our absolute best to make this a
memorable weekend for all involved, whether that be players,
coaches and administrators or simply fans of basketball."
The tournament will be held in the gym on the east side of
Sheridan's Davis Campus in Brampton, with quarter-final play on
February 27, followed by the semifinals (February 28) and medal
games (March 1).
The last time Sheridan hosted a men's basketball championship
event was the 2005-06 season, when they staged the CCAA National
Championship tournament in the inaugural season of the new Davis
Campus gym in Brampton.
They have twice hosted the OCAA championship (2002-03 and
1992-93) and first hosted the CCAA nationals in 1986-87, all at the
J.M. Porter Athletic Centre in Oakville.
Sheridan also hosted the OCAA Women's Basketball Championship
during the 2008-09 season.
Last season the Bruins won their 10th OCAA championship, and
finished fourth nationally after dropping a nail-biting bronze
medal game to Langara College (Vancouver) in overtime.
