The Conestoga College Department of Athletics is very pleased to
welcome Marek Gwozdz as their new head coach of
the Conestoga College Condors Women's Volleyball team in the
Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA).
As far as Gwozdz remembers volleyball was always part of his life.
He is very passionate about the sport which he has been playing for
over 30 years. He started with a provincial junior club team in his
native Poland and after arriving in Canada, he continued to play in
the Ontario "AA" league. In 1993, he became the Conestoga Condors
starting setter and was subsequently awarded a scholarship that
year.
A few years back, Gwozdz began giving back to the sport that gave
him so much by coaching girls OVA Teams with the Waterloo Tigers
Volleyball Club, one of the best clubs in the region that just
recently celebrated 32 years of providing volleyball to the
athletes of Kitchener, Cambridge, Waterloo and surrounding
areas.
"I'm really excited to be the new head coach of Conestoga College
Condors,” said Gwozdz. "I am very grateful for this exciting
opportunity that will allow me to further advance my coaching
career at the OCAA's level."
"I believe that highly competitive players thrive in a highly
competitive environment, and that leads to fun, team building and
friendships that last a lifetime. These young women have an
incredible opportunity to be great volleyball players at such a
young age. Hopefully, I can learn from them and them from me. As a
coach, it is my desire to share my love for the game with my
players. My ultimate goal is to develop these young athletes into
well rounded volleyball players who will further advance their
volleyball skills while pursuing the excellent education that
Conestoga College has to offer."
"As far as actual results are concerned, I truly believe that with
hard work they will come," added Gwozdz. "I would obviously like
our team to compete and challenge the best college teams in the
province."
