2010-11 CAMPUS RECREATION LEADERSHIP AWARDS
Mike Gonder - Humber College
For the past three years, Mike has been an integral part of
Humber Athletics having worked in three separate areas of the
department. He has worked in the Campus Recreation Office,
for the Student Athletic Association and as the Manager of the
Women's Rugby team. Mike displays leadership skills that were
enhanced by his passion, dedication and commitment to each
different area of the department.
Mike has been a Sport Convenor for the Recreation Department that,
on many occasions, required working late-night hours at Westwood
Arena running the intramural ice hockey program. As the
Referee-In-Chief, he also trained and scheduled our intramural
referees for all three on-campus leagues. He has also spent much of
his free-time volunteering as the Men's and Women's Extramural Ice
Hockey Manager and travelled to numerous tournaments with the
teams.
Mike has been a part of the Events Crew for the Student Athletic
Association and has helped to organize and run the annual Varsity
Gala and the year-end banquet for the two of the past three years.
He has assisted with the Extramural Awards banquet for the past
three years. He has also worn the mascot suit, Skyhawk, at a number
of events on and off campus. Mike has helped to organize and staff
smaller events and information booths to help recruit fans to
varsity games and to the Athletic Centre. A number of these events
are on weekends.
Nicole Muir - Canadore College
In the past two years, Nicole has taken on virtually every role
there is in Athletics at Canadore. She has always given 110 percent
in every task or responsibility and always goes above and beyond.
Despite the tragic death of her good friend and Panther Athletic
Council member Kris Clement, Nicole has overcome grief and focused
her efforts on school and on proving herself as a leader with great
organizational skills. She has taken on the role of Intramural
Basketball League Convenor, Ice Hockey Timekeeper, Special Events
Convenor for activities such as Canadore's Paintball trip, Gymtech
at two campuses, and has worked varsity volleyball games in many
capacities such as scorekeeper and as well as working the
three-ball system.
Recently Nicole took over the role of Ice Hockey Convenor for
Canadore's Campus Recreation Ice Hockey League. She has worked at
Canadore's Campus Life Day and Winterfest events at the Commerce
Court Campus and always motivates her classmates to participate in
every event.
Not only has she taken on various roles within Canadore Athletics,
Nicole has always been the first person to volunteer her time when
needed and she sees the value in donating her time to help others.
Overall, with such a great work ethic, an amazing sense of
professionalism and integrity, Nicole is what every Athletic
Department looks for in a student leader and it brings such a sense
of pride to have students like Nicole working for Canadore
Athletics.
