A number of significant changes will take place beginning in September, including:

- Championship hosts in both basketball and volleyball will earn direct entry into its championship tournaments. Championship hosts will be named in May, 2012.
- The inclusion of Cambrian College in women's basketball, Canadore College in men's basketball, and Sheridan I.T. in men's and women's rugby.
The OCAA has also formed an Ad Hoc committee tasked with preparing a position paper regarding a potential Division I and II competitive structure for the sports of basketball, soccer and volleyball. The position paper will be presented to athletic directors at the 2012 OCAA annual general meeting taking place in Ottawa the week of April 30.
