The Mohawk men and women each scored important victories over Mountain rivals Redeemer in OCAA soccer at Mohawk Sports Park Thursday (Oct.13).
The Mountaineer men got first half goals from Abdullah Abdullah and Matthew Kernick in a 2-1 win over the Royals. Jordan Devries got a late goal for Redeemer.
Mohawk head coach Richard Bennett said the team feels good about the game. "(Redeemer's) a good team to play. I told our players in the dressing room the importance of this game, that we basically had to win to keep our playoff hopes alive. Give Redeemer credit, said Bennett. "They came out and pressured us from the start. They even had a goal called back on an offside. But I was confident we'd win."
Mohawk improved to 3-2-2. Redeemer dropped to 2-4.
