The St. Clair College men's soccer team had a huge upset win on Saturday afternoon in OCAA Quarter Final Playoff action.
The Saints took down the undefeated Algonquin Thunder in Ottawa by a score of 3-1. The Saints went up early with two goals in the first fifteen minutes by rookie Jordan Lidia. Algonquin closed within one on a free kick midway through the second half. However, Lidia sealed the game with his hat trick goal with 3 minutes left in the match. Rookie Joey Plavetic had a solid game in goal for the Saints.
Algonquin was the top team in the OCAA East heading into the game with a record of 6 wins and 1 tie. The Thunder were the second ranked team in Ontario and the 14th ranked team in Canada. In seven games Algonquin had scored 22 goals and only allowed 4.
The Saints will now travel to Toronto to compete in the OCAA Provincial Final Four Championships at the Vaughan Grove Soccer Centre next weekend. St. Clair will play in the OCAA semi-final on Friday afternoon . If they win they will advance to play for OCAA gold on Saturday and if they lose they will play for Bronze.
