ANCASTER, Ont. - The Redeemer Royals men's volleyball team will head to San Diego, California over the Christmas Break. The trip, from December 28 to January 4, will see the Royals competing against some of the top college and university teams in Canada and training out of the San Diego Volleyball Club facility.
While in San Diego, the Royals will spend their time training
and taking part in an exhibition tournament scheduled for December
29-31. There will also be some time off for the team for
sightseeing.
Tournament play for the Royals will be intense and will be used to
prepare the team for the second semester and possibly a run at the
OCAA volleyball championship. The team will face the 2012 national
championship host Columbia Bible College (ranked No. 11 in Canada),
No. 9-ranked Red Deer College, No. 6-ranked Limoilou Collge, and
No. 1 nationally-ranked Vancouver Island University while in
California.
Athletic Director Dave Mantel commented, "It will
provide the team with a high level of competition over the
Christmas Break and will help to prepare the team for the second
half stretch and potentially into playoffs. The team has shown over
the last number of years that it has the ability to compete for
provincial medals and this quality competitive environment is a
great way to prepare the team both physically and mentally for some
important games coming up in the second semester."
The Royals currently sit in fifth place in the OCAA West region
with a 5-4 record. The team is ranked No. 7 in the province.
