DURHAM 3, CAMBRIAN 2 (FINAL)
SUDBURY, Ont. – The Durham College men's volleyball team picked up a Sudbury sweep on Sunday as they defeated the Cambrian Golden Shield 3-2. The Lords defeated Boreal 3-0 on Saturday to go 2-0 this weekend.
Durham trailed 1-0 and 2-1 in Sunday's match, but were able to pull out a comeback victory as they won the fourth and fifth sets. Scores in the marathon match were 26-28, 25-23, 25-27, 25-23 and 15-9.
Steve Clarey (Baltimore, Ont.) led all scorers in the match with 21 points including a season high 20 kills. The Lords outside hitter is averaging 2.95 points per set this season.
A game after becoming Durham's career scoring leader, Dave McMann (Elmvale, Ont.) added nine points to his totals which included three blocks. Aaron Sheerahamed (Markham, Ont.) and Bradley Van Hartingsveldt (Newcastle, Ont.) had eight points apiece.
Luke Kilbourn (Ingersoll, Ont.) led the team on defence with 15 digs while Jeremy Hoekstra (Cobourg, Ont.) had 12.
The win marked Andrew Hinchey's 40th overall win as head coach of Lords. He has an overall record of 40-16 and 21-3 in conference play as the Lords bench boss.
Durham has won three straight matches to improve to 5-1 in conference play. Durham is tied with Loyalist and La Cite for third place in the East Region, trailing Algonquin and Seneca who are both undefeated.
The Lords will return home on Thursday, November 24 for a match against the Trent Excalibur. First serve is at 8 p.m.
