NORTH BAY, Ont. - The Durham Lords defeated the Sheridan Bruins in three sets (25-18, 26-24, 25-21) today during bronze medal quarter-final action in the Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA) Men's Volleyball Championships at Nipissing University.
NORTH BAY, Ont. - The Durham Lords defeated the Sheridan Bruins in three sets (25-18, 26-24, 25-21) today during bronze medal quarter-final action in the Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA) Men's Volleyball Championships at Nipissing University.
The game marked a battle between two impressive rookies with Durham's Bradley Van Hartingsveldt and Sheridan's Jeremy Fantin each winning OCAA rookie of the year honours in their respective divisions.
Durham controlled play for most of the first two sets, though Sheridan did battle back late in the second set to notch the game at 24 before Durham could eke out the victory.
Sheridan fought hard to stay alive in the third set, but simply couldn't get past Durham.
Player of the Game honours for Durham went to David McCann who recorded 10 kills, one service ace and two stuff blocks for 13 points.
Cody Williams, with 12 kills and two stuff blocks for 14 points, was named Sheridan's Player of the Game.
Durham now enters the bronze medal semifinals tomorrow at 9 a.m., taking on the loser of tonight's Mohawk Mountaineers versus Humber Hawks match.
