It took Humber five sets (22-25, 23-25, 25-18, 25-20, 15-6) in a come from behind victory that gave the defending OCAA champions another berth in the gold medal game tomorrow.
The match featured many unforced errors by each team. The first set was very close and often a single point separated each team. Humber's Terrel Bramwell (Mississauga, Ont.), OCAA Men's Volleyball Player of the Year, made 12 kills in the first set. The second set featured a five point run by Mohawk that was answered shortly thereafter by four successive points by Humber.
Humber lead scoring in the third set with one exception when Mohawk pulled ahead by a single point. The fourth set again featured many unforced errors and poor passing. Humber took control in the latter part of the set to win by five points.
Mohawk fell behind 6-1 in the fifth and deciding set and Humber continue the lead to take the match. The set featured three unforced errors in four points charged to Humber, including a yellow card caution shown to Bramwell for challenging the first official's calls.
Humber's Player of the Game was awarded to Bramwell who broke two OCAA records for kills, with 48, and total offensive points, with 52, in addition to two stuff blocks. Teammate and setter Andre Brown (Mississauga, Ont.) added nine kills and one stuff block.
Mohawk's Player of the Game went to second year setter Mark Kaveckas (Barrie, Ont.). Teammate and right side hitter Justin Scapinello scored 16 kills, one serving ace, and two stuff blocks for 19 points.
Humber will play for the gold medal tomorrow at 5 p.m. against the winner of the other semi-final game, featuring the host Nipissing Lakers and Algonquin Thunder.
Mohawk will have a chance to play for a berth in the bronze medal game if they win against the Durham Lords in an early game tomorrow at 9 a.m.
