ST. CLAIR COLLEGE SAINTS VARSITY BIG WEEKEND AHEAD
The St. Clair Saints men's and women's volleyball teams continue their second semester schedule on Friday night when they host the Mohawk Mountaineers at the St. Clair gym.
The women take the floor at 6 p.m. against Mohawk. The St. Clair women are currently 4-9 on the season and are battling for a playoff spot in the tough OCAA West Division. The Mohawk women have a record of 3-10 heading into the match.
The men take the floor at 8 p.m. against the Mountaineers. The St. Clair men are coming off of their first league win of the season after suffering some close defeats. The Mohawk men have a record of 10-3 and are ranked 4th in Ontario and 15th in Canada.
The Athletic Department will be honouring all of St. Clair's graduating athletes on this night as well. After the conclusion of the women's match a short ceremony will take place to recognize all of these student athletes.
The varsity basketball teams take the floor both Saturday and Sunday and host two schools from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. this weekend. Sault College visits Saturday with the women starting the doubleheader at 6 p.m. and the men following at 8 p.m. The Sault College women (2-9) enter the weekend in 9th place in the West Region two games behind St. Clair (4-7). The St. Clair women need to reach Top 6 in the West to qualify for the play-offs but will do it without the services of third-year shooting guard and leading scorer Amanda McCarthy (12.5 PPG) who suffered a season ending ankle injury in exhibition play Wednesday night at Rochester. Arica Price (11.9 PPG) and Kelly Rizea (10.1 PPG) will have to pick up the slack. The women host second place Algoma (9-2) who are 3rd in the recent OCAA rankings on Sunday at 1 p.m. to round out the home weekend.
The St. Clair men's basketball (1-10) team host Sault (1-10) on Saturday at 8 p.m. and finish with Algoma (8-3) on Sunday at 3 p.m. Second year guard Stephan Gray (Milton, Ont.) leads the Saints in scoring at 12.3 PPG who will try and upset Algoma who is the OCAA 5th ranked team.
Sunday is Kids Day at the St. Clair gym for the basketball doubleheader. Kids 13 and under are welcome to attend free and can also enjoy a hot dog and pop at no charge. It is also Big Brothers/Big Sisters day on Sunday who are welcome to attend free of admission as well.
