OSHAWA, Ont. – Erin Emery of North Bay
was honoured for her dedication to the sport of basketball during
her five year career at Durham College as she was the 2012
recipient of the George Martyn Memorial trophy.
The award presentation took place at the 32nd annual North Bay
Sports Hall of Fame Induction ceremony.
Establishing new benchmarks in OCAA women's basketball during her
five-year collegiate career, Emery received a number of academic
and athletic awards.
Emery became the third player in OCAA history to eclipse 1,000
points, as she finished with 1,067, on her way to becoming the
Durham College women's basketball all-time leading scorer.
She was a four-time OCAA all-star and team MVP, three-time CCAA
Academic All-Canadian and a two-time Durham College Bonnie
Ginter-Brown Leadership award winner. She was also the team's
rookie of the year.
Prior to joining Durham College, she graduated from St. Joseph-
Scollard Hall in 2007. She was part of a close group of friends
that went out as NDA senior girls champions in their final season
playing for head coach Jim Davidson, a win that was dedicated to
former teammate Melanie Savord, who had died in a traffic accident
in 2005.
Inductees into the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame included Lou
Farelli (posthumously, former NHL referee), Tom Hedican (hockey),
Garry Payne (multi-sport builder), Claude Riopelle (football) and
Rolph Tipler (judo).
