VAUGHAN, Ont. - In a rematch of a first-round game at regionals,
the Humber Hawks were pitted against the Seneca Sting to decide who
would be the 2012 OCAA men's indoor soccer champions.
The Hawks won the first meeting in a nail biting 1-0 fashion. This
3-0 win, Humber's second consecutive OCAA title, was less tense as
Humber scored early and controlled the match the rest of the
way.
Less than two minute into the game Humber drew first blood as
Yousif Mohammed scored a tap-in goal.
Andrew DaSilva, with 30 seconds left in the half,
dazzled the crowd with a beautiful display of footwork and buried
the ball into the twine to give Humber a 2-0 lead at the break.
With little action occurring in the second half the game got a
little chippy as both teams were cautioned. Nick
Cisternino scored with three minutes left in the game to
put the game on ice.
Humber's keeper David Ragno, was named goalie of
the tournament.
Mario Orestano was selected as the tournament
most valuable player for the second time in his career at
Humber.
Seneca's Joey Amato and Mauricio
Orsetano were named tournament all-stars.
This win, combined with the women's victory, has given the Hawks
wins in both the indoor and outdoor seasons for the past two
years.
In the bronze medal match, Sheridan won 1-0 over Fleming-Peterborough on penalty kicks.
Sheridan's David Velastegai was named a tournament all-star.
