FANSHAWE TOPS INITIAL OCAA WOMEN'S SOCCER RANKINGS
TORONTO - The Fanshawe Falcons earned two wins to begin their Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) women’s soccer regular season, and as a result, soared to the top of the initial OCAA Top 5 rankings.

Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) women's soccer regular
season, and as a result, soared to the top of the initial OCAA Top
5 rankings.
1. Fanshawe Falcons
(Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Rank - 4)
The Fanshawe Falcons (2-0-0) defeated Niagara at home 7-0 last
Friday, then earned a 3-0 road victory at No. 5 Conestoga on
Sunday.
Jaynie VanDeWaite score three goals in two games,
including a pair against Niagara. Jessica Bergsma
also netted two goals against Niagara.
There will be a clash of titans coming up this upcoming Saturday
as defending OCAA silver medalist Fanshawe visits No. 2 Humber.
Both teams have won the last two OCAA championships.
2. Humber Hawks
(CCAA Rank - 3)
The defending OCAA champion Humber Hawks (2-0-0) picked up two
road victories on their western swing, defeating St. Clair 6-0 on
Saturday followed by a 5-0 win over Lambton on Sunday.
Natasha Kroon scored three goals in both games,
including two against St. Clair. Jackie Rolfe
scored twice against Lambton.
A repeat of last year's OCAA championship will take place this
Saturday between Humber and No. 1 Fanshawe.
3. Algonquin Thunder
(CCAA Rank - 9)
The defending OCAA bronze medalist Algonquin Thunder (1-0-0) began
their season on a positive note, defeating St. Lawrence-Kingston
10-0 at home on Saturday.
Jaymie Baldree netted a hat trick for Algonquin
in the victory. Rosa Navas and Sydney
Midwood also had multi-goal games with two each.
Algonquin hits the road for two games, including a tilt with
Fleming-Peterborough on Friday, followed by Durham on Saturday.
4. Sheridan Bruins
Similar to Humber, the Sheridan Bruins (2-0-0) began their season
with a western road swing, coming away with two victories over
Lambton and St. Clair.
Paula Simas scored four goals in a 5-0 win over
Lambton on Saturday. The output gives Simas the initial OCAA
scoring lead of the season.
Nina Mennite scored twice in a 3-1 win over St.
Clair on Sunday.
Sheridan's lone game this week is at home against No. 5 Conestoga
on Saturday.
5. Conestoga Condors
The Conestoga Condors (1-1-0) opened the season with an impressive
3-0 win at home over Mohawk on Friday before falling to top-ranked
Fanshawe by the same score at home on Sunday.
Samantha Fowles earned a hat trick for Conestoga
against Mohawk.
The schedule doesn't get any easier for Conestoga, with games at
No. 2 Humber on Tuesday and at No. 4 Sheridan on Saturday.
