MORENO NAMED 2011 CCAA WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE YEAR

The CCAA (Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association) has named Keyla Moreno the 2011 CCAA Women's Soccer Player of the Year.

Moreno is a fourth-year forward with the Humber College Hawks of Etobicoke, Ont.

"It was a difficult decision; they all were good candidates," says Vince Amato, CCAA's vice-president of marketing. "But Keyla Moreno's performance was strong as both a player and a group leader."

Keyla Moreno has accomplished many things in four years at Humber. She's a two-time CCAA Women's Soccer All-Canadian and OCAA Women's Soccer Player of the Year who's won conference titles for Humber in both indoor and outdoor soccer. Her 31 career goals rank her second in Humber history, and eighth in the OCAA.

But Moreno's leadership role on the Humber Hawks goes beyond scoring; she's the go-to player on the field and a mentor for younger athletes. As a result the Humber Hawks earned bronze at the 2010 CCAA Big Kahuna Soccer National Championships and had a perfect regular season record in the 2011 OCAA West Division.

The other nominees for 2011 CCAA Women's Soccer Player of the Year were Emily Burke of the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics, Leanne Kadatz of the NAIT Ooks, Gabrielle Lapointe of the Cégep de Sainte-Foy Dynamiques and Shanay Sangha of the Kwantlen Polytechnic University Eagles.

Keyla Moreno received the award Tuesday, November 8 at the CCAA Soccer National Championships in Quebec City, Que. Player of the Year winners receive a CCAA customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring Supplier of the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet.
