TRENT 3, SENECA 0 (FINAL)
On the strength of nine kills from Emma Schlegl and eight kills from Peterborough native Rebecca Van Staalduinen the Trent Excalibur women's volleyball team won a straight set decision (25-22, 25-14, 25-20) over the Seneca Sting.
The win improves the Excalibur to 1-1 on the season heading into Saturday's match against the Georgian Grizzlies.
In addition to her nine kills, Schlegl chipping in two aces for a total of 11 points. Van Staalduinen contributed eight kills while Sara Rettie chipped in nine points on six kills and three blocks. Sarah MacLaren also counted five kills and three blocks for the victors.
Trent played a strong game defensively, giving up only 16 kills while totalling 41 digs. Libero Jessica Clancy led the Excalibur with 10 digs while Schlegl and Hayley Hancock had nine each.
Guilia Giorgio and Cassandra Urbshas led the way for Seneca with five and four kills respectively. Clare Weisser had 11 digs in the loss.
The Excalibur will look to ride the strong game into their next game. Trent will host the Georgian Grizzlies Saturday for a 1 p.m. start.
