DURHAM 3, ALGONQUIN 2 (FINAL)
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's volleyball team ended their three game losing streak in style on Friday night as they defeated the Algonquin Thunder 3-2 on Durham Attack night at the CRWC.
Set scores in the marathon match were 25-22, 25-22, 14-25, 26-28 and 15-12.
Algonquin entered the match with six more wins than Durham, but the Lords managed to play their best match of the season and pull off the five set win.
"The team dug down deep tonight," said Durham head coach Shane Christopher. "Hopefully we build off this momentum and make a run at a playoff spot. We have a big game tomorrow night against La Cite."
Durham's defence was exceptional against Algonquin as Jenn Sheehan and Colleen McRobert had 20 digs apiece. Ashley Mulholland led the Lords offensive attack with 13 kills, three blocks and one ace while Natasha Jakovljevic had five kills, three blocks and one ace.
Breann Wheeler and Rachel Canavan each had 12 points for Algonquin in the loss.
Durham improves to 5-10 this season while the Thunder fall to 10-5.
The Lords will host the La Cite Coyotes on Saturday night at the CRWC. Game time is at 6 p.m. Durham is 4-4 at home this season.
