DURHAM 3, LOYALIST 1 (FINAL)
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's volleyball team picked up a big win in their regular season home finale as they defeated Loyalist College 3-1.
It was a big upset for the Lords as Loyalist came into the game in second place with 12-5 record.
After the Lords went up 2-0 after two sets, the Lancers clawed back into the match with a dominating 25-14 third set victory.
With Loyalist winning 19-17 in the fourth, it looked as if the match was destined for a fifth and final set. That is when the Lords turned up the energy after a timeout, as they went on an 8-1 run to close out the match and pick up the win.
Graduating senior Nicole Riedstra paced the Lords offence with 15 points (nine kills, five blocks and one ace). Ashley Mulholland also had a standout night for Durham as she had 14 points including 13 kills.
Jenny Richardson and Kirsten Talsma led the Lancers in scoring with 10 points apiece.
Durham improves to 7-11 on the year and are tied with George Brown for seventh place in the OCAA east region. Their next game is on Friday night in Toronto against the Huskies.
