ROUND ROBIN PLAY NOW COMPLETE AT OCAA CURLING CHAMPIONSHIPS
Round robin play of the 2012 OCAA Curling Championships wrapped up Saturday evening at the Sault Curlers Club.
Round robin play of the 2012 OCAA Curling Championships wrapped up Saturday evening at the Sault Curlers Club. The event saw 25 teams representing 11 schools compete over three days; all vying for the coveted berths in Championship Sunday.
In the mixed division, Fanshawe College finished the round robin draw a perfect 5-0 and advance to Sunday afternoon's gold medal draw. They will face the winner of the Sunday morning semi-final between Seneca College and St. Clair College; Seneca bringing in a 4-1 standing while St. Clair earned the final playoff spot with a 3-2 record.
In women's play, first year entry Humber College won their pool with a 4-0 record, while Seneca College was perfect in their pool play 4-0. Humber will face off in the morning semi with Fanshawe College who finished second in their pool 3-1. Seneca had to wait late into Saturday night for their opponent as Sault College qualified with a tiebreaker win over Mohawk College. The winners will move on to the gold medal game while the losers will square off in the bronze medal match.
Finally in men's play, Fanshawe College lead from first to last draw sporting a 8-0 record and a berth into the afternoon gold medal match. They will face the winner of the morning semi-final between Fleming College Peterborough and the host Sault College; who each produced 6-2 and 5-3 records respectively.
Morning semi's are set to begin at 9:00 am at the Soo Curlers Club and the gold medal games are slated for 12:30 pm. At stake, is not only provincial glory but also berths in the 1st National Collegiate Championships in Peterborough beginning March 20.
