ST. CLAIR 3, CONESTOGA 0
St. Clair (1-0) defeated Conestoga (0-1) by a score of 3-0.
St. Clair jumped out with two quick runs in the first inning on a double by center fielder Alexa Georgiou (Windsor/Assumption) that scored Jordan Beauchesne (Windsor/Vincent Massey) and Cait Styles (Windsor/Vincent Massey). The game sheet stayed clear until the sixth inning when a squeeze bunt by Kallie Desjarlais (Amherstburg/St. Thomas of Villanova) plated Jessica Russo (Windsor/Holy Names) to complete the scoring. Conestoga threatened in the 7th inning but Saints pitcher Allie Telfer (Windsor/F.J. Brennan) worked her way out of a bases loaded jam when she coaxed a ground ball to third base for an easy force to end the game.
Telfer worked 7 innings on the mound for the win allowing only 3 hits but did surrender 5 walks to go with 4 strikeouts. Russo finished 2 for 3 on the day to lead the Saints offensively but Georgiou's 2-run RBI double in the first was the decisive blow.
The Saints travel to Toronto this weekend to take on the top two teams from 2011 with a pair of games on Saturday at Humber (Etobicoke) and complete the road trip at defending OCAA Champion Durham (Oshawa) on Sunday for a single game. St. Clair's next home games are Sep. 26th when they host Mohawk College (Hamilton) at Mic Mac Park in a doubleheader.
