ST. CLAIR 10, SENECA 2
The St. Clair Saints completed a sweep of their double header with the Seneca Sting this afternoon and announced that they are once again a contender in the OCAA. The Saints overcame an early deficit before scoring double digits runs to end the game in six innings. Three times, the Saints put three runs on the board in an inning to improve to 3-3 on the season.
Seneca got on the board in the first inning courtesy of a single by Lauren McLaughlin. Shannon Gould reached on a fielder's choice before stealing second base. Aggressive base running allowed her to score on the hit by McLaughlin to give the Sting an early one run lead.
St. Clair took the lead in the second inning on a single by Cortnee Burgess which scored Kallie Desjarlais from third. Burgess would later score on a fielder's choice by Lisa Ternosky. Jessica Russo would complete the second inning scoring with an RBI double to score Caitlyn Stiles.
The teams traded runs in the third. Alexa Georgiou hit a home run in the top half of the inning while McLaughlin would counter for the home team with a home run of her own.
St. Clair would break the game open in the fifth on a squeeze bunt. Sting catcher Natalie Chiarotto tried to tag Jordan Beauchesne coming from third, but was unable to field the bunt in time. Gordan would score the sixth Saints run on a blooper to second followed by Desjarlais crossing the plate on an error by Gould.
The sixth inning would prove to be the final inning as the Saints another three runs highlighted by the second home run by Georgiou.
Alexa Georgiou had three hits, including two home runs, for St. Clair while teammate Cortnee Burgess had three runs batted in on three singles. Lauren McLaughlin led the Sting with a home run, a single and two RBIs.
Seneca (1-3) gets back in action on Tuesday as they host the Conestoga Condors (2-2) at 6 and 8 p.m. while St. Clair will host Mohawk Wednesday (0-5) in a double header at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.
