ST. CLAIR 6, SENECA 0
NORTH YORK, Ont. - For the host team, it was all over in two games. The St. Clair Saints downed the host Seneca Sting 6-0 Friday evening to continue their pursuit of an OCAA fastball championship. The loss was the second of the day for the Sting, who were eliminated in the double-elimination championship.
Errors were an issue for the Sting in the second inning as the Saints took a 2-0 lead in the bottom half of the inning. Lisa Ternosky reached on an error and ended up at second on the play. She moved to third on an error with Cortnee Burgess' at bat and then scored on an error in centre field for the first run of the inning. Burgess, who reached second following the two errors, scored the second run of the inning, also on a Sting error.
The game remained close until the bottom of the fifth when the Saints bats came alive. Alexa Georgiou led off the inning with a single and moved to second following a single by Cait Stiles. A fielder's choice put Georgiou out at third with runners on first and second. Ternosky hit a two-run triple to deep left centre, scoring Stiles and Jessica Russo. Burgess hit a single to score Ternosky before scoring herself later in the inning for a commanding 6-0 lead.
Georgiou was sensational on the mound, allowing only three hits and walking two while striking out seven. She would pitch a perfect 1-2-3 inning in the top of the seventh, including fielding the final out, for the win.
The Saints now move on to play the Durham Lords at 10 a.m. in the bronze medal game while the Sting see their season come to a close.
