Sunday, Feb. 26.
Humber Men's Volleyball
The Humber Hawks won a third consecutive OCAA men's volleyball
championship, sweeping host Nipissing 3-0 (27-25, 25-20, 25-22) in
the tournament finale. After defeating last year's silver medalist
Redeemer 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-23) in the quarter-finals, the Hawks
came back from two sets down to defeat eventual bronze medalist
Mohawk 3-2 (22-25, 23-25, 25-18, 25-20, 15-6) in the semi-finals.
Humber fourth-year setter Derek Quinn
(Mississauga, Ont.) was named tournament most valuable player.
Humber Women's Volleyball
The Humber Hawks won a fifth consecutive OCAA women's volleyball
championship, sweeping Cambrian 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-16) in the
tournament finale. Humber lost just one set at the tournament,
defeating Trent in the quarter-finals 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-16)
before winning 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-17, 25-21) over Nipissing in
the OCAA semi-finals. Humber's 21 wins without a loss marks the
first perfect OCAA women's volleyball season since 2008-09, when
the Hawks went 23-0.
