ST. LAWRENCE-BROCKVILLE 2011-12 ATHLETIC AWARDS
BROCKVILLE, Ont. - St. Lawrence College Athletics & Recreation honoured its student athletes at a special ceremony at the Brockville Memorial Centre on Thursday, March 29 and Dawn Martin and Chris Love picked up two of the biggest awards.

Recreation honoured its student athletes at a special ceremony at
the Brockville Memorial Centre on Thursday, March 29 and
Dawn Martin and Chris Love picked
up two of the biggest awards.
Martin, a cross-country runner from Perth, Ont. was named the
Rotary Club Female Athlete of the Year for the second straight
year.
The award honours Martin's second consecutive trip to the
Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Cross Country
Championships, where she placed ninth and helped Team Ontario to a
gold medal. She earned the trip to the national competition hosted
by Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, B.C. in November, after
placing fourth at the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association
championships in Kingston in October.
She was also part of the Schooners women's cross country team that
placed third at the Ontario championships and eighth at the
national championships.
Love, a Police Foundations student from Musouche, Que., was named
the Rotary Club Male Athlete of the Year. He was the captain and
one of the leading scorers on the St. Lawrence College Brockville
River Dog's men's hockey team, which qualified for the Challenge
Cup provincial championship tournament for the first time in the
team's history. Love was also an important member of the Schooners
golf and men's indoor soccer teams. Love also took home the Most
Valuable Player award for hockey and Most Improved Player award for
golf.
"This was a remarkable year for SLC Brockville athletics," said
Chris Paul, the Athletic and Student Life Officer
for St. Lawrence College Brockville. "We were able to send our
women's cross country team to a national championship and our men's
hockey team to a provincial championship and those are very special
achievements for small school like ours."
"Our award winners represent just a few of the athletes who
represented SLC Brockville proudly and helped us achieve these
goals."
Adam Brontmire, a Police Foundations student from
Brockville, earned the Tyler Forkes Fair Play Award, in honour of
the sportsmanship he showed while competing on the Schooners men's
cross-country and indoor soccer teams.
Susan Filion, a cross country runner and Office
Administration student from Brockville, was awarded the Schooners
Athletic and Academic Achievement Award for having a Grade Point
Average of 4.0.
The SLC Athletics Contribution Award went to Erin
Armstrong, a Nursing from Athens, for her contributions to
the SLC PAC teams on student events, such as the Respect
Campaign.
Brad Craig-Pettem, the head coach of the women's
indoor soccer team and assistant with the men's indoor soccer team,
took home the Intramural Staff Athlete of the Year Award, for
contributing to intramural events on campus.
