Canadore College hosted its 44th Annual Athletic Awards banquet Wednesday evening to honour athletic achievement and dedication in the 2012-13 Panther season.

Varsity Male Athlete of Year
Dan Trudel, Men's Volleyball
Hometown: North Bay, Ont.
Program: Rural Recreation, Year 3
Third-year left side Trudel led Canadore all season with his impressive statistics. He finished the season 12th overall among Ontario College Athletics Association (OCAA) players. On offence, he contributed 183 kills, averaging 3.33 kills per set, 10 solo blocks, and 10 service aces. Defensively, Trudel contributed 112 digs averaging 2.04 digs per set. Trudel was named OCAA Athlete of the Week for men's volleyball in December and represented Canadore in the OCAA All-Star Game earlier this month. Trudel is considered a huge asset to the volleyball team by his teammates and coaches.
Varsity Male Athlete of Year
Christian Casimier, Men's Basketball
Hometown: Scarborough, Ont.
Program: Strength and Sport Conditioning, Year
1
Casimier finished the season 37th in scoring among OCAA players and first overall for the Panthers. Christian's percentages were 43.1 percent in field goals, 32.8 percent for three-point shots, and 56.8 percent for free throws. He averaged 5.9 rebounds per game and 11.9 points per game. According to his fellow teammates, Casimier played an important role as an enthusiastic charismatic leader on the court. The Panther men's basketball team was named OCAA Team of the Week in January for their first win over Lambton College. Casimier was noted in this accomplishment for contributing 21 points and 13 rebounds to the win. Born and raised in Scarborough, he moved to North Bay in September where he excels in the classroom, leads in statistics and works part-time for the Athletics Department.
Varsity Female Athlete of Year
Mackenzie Mills, Women's Volleyball
Hometown: North Bay, Ont.
Program: Police Foundations, Year 1
Mills achieved 44 kills, 21 service aces, 89 digs, and eight solo blocks this season alone. As team captain, she was often relied upon by her coaches and teammates for her leadership both on and off the court. The first-year athlete has a tremendous amount of athletic ability with championship potential. She is recognized by her fellow team members as a hard worker and leader at practice and in game.
Kris Clement Memorial Award
Amber Potter, Panther Athletic Council
Hometown: Hamilton, Ont.
Program: Practical Nursing, Year 3
Kim and Bruce Clement created the Kris Clement Memorial Scholarship in honour of their late son, a Canadore College student and gifted athlete. The award's criteria stipulates that the recipient must attend Canadore full-time, hold a minimum 3.0 grade point average, be social and active in college life, and participate in athletics, intramurals or a hockey program. Recipient Amber Potter has been a member of the Panthers Athletic Council for three years, and has become an integral part of the Athletic Department. Her pride, commitment and dedication to Canadore and its athletics programs has made an invaluable difference in the lives of many students according to her peers.

Jessica Haskins, Women's Indoor Soccer
Hometown: Ottawa, Ont.
Program: Strength and Sport Conditioning, Year
1
Haskins held the position of the Panther women's indoor soccer goaltender this season. Her attendance record at practices and games was perfect throughout the year - she was never one to miss a practice and ready to compete at all games. According to her coach, Haskins was a pleasure to mentor because of her passion and heart for the game. Her teamwork and initiative was crucial to every victory the team achieved.
