Female Athlete of the Year
Carol De La Cerna, Badminton
In only her second year, Carol led the Seneca badminton team to a
regional woman's banner, double gold at provincials, and a bronze
at the national championship. Despite being one of the youngest on
the team, Carol earned the respect of all her peers by exhibiting
outstanding leadership and technical skills. Her unparalleled
desire to improve and unique personality brought out the best in
both her teammates and coaches. Carol was an inspirational mentor,
role model, and superstar to all of Seneca Sting Badminton.
Male Athlete of the Year
Mitchel Kennedy, Golf
As walk-on with the golf team, Mitchel had one of the most
successful seasons on the links in recent memory. Mitchel began his
college golf career with an individual championship at the Fleming
Invitational shooting a 73. He followed that up with another
championship at the Niagara Invitational, carding a 68. Kennedy
finished second at the OCAA championship and was named a CCAA
All-Canadian.
Felix Adjei, Men's Basketball
Adjei's play this year helped restore excitement in the men's
basketball program. Adjei led the OCAA in scoring, averaging 22.1
points per game, almost three points per game more than second
place. Felix led the team in rebounding and blocks and was named
both an OCAA First-Team All-Star and CCAA All-Canadian as well as
was the OCAA Player of the Year.
Seneca Sting Hall of Fame
Samantha Braithwaite, Cross Country Running
Sam was named to the All-Ontario First-Team this past year,
finishing in fourth place at the OCAA championship and helping the
Cross Country team finish sixth. At the CCAA championship, Sam
finished in 43rd place. In 2011-12, Sam was named to the
All-Ontario Second-Team, finishing seventh at the OCAA championship
and 11th at the CCAA championship as an individual.
Katelyn Carey, Women's Rugby
Katelyn has helped the women's rugby team become a contender in
each of her three seasons. In her first year, Katelyn was a
part of an OCAA silver medal team. In 2011-12, Katelyn was named a
League All-Star, a feat she would duplicate this year while helping
the Sting win the OCAA bronze medal.

volleyball program. He captured an OCAA silver medal in his rookie
season on the OCAA East Region championship team. In his second

East Region and fourth place at the OCAA championship. In his final
two seasons, Gajic was named an OCAA Second-Team All-Star. In
2011-12, Gajic was a part of Seneca's fourth place finish at the
OCAA championship and was named a championship player of the
game.
Stephen E. Quinlan Award
Joey Amato, Men's Soccer
Joey was every coach's dream. He was a player who always gave his
best at practice and in games. He was a player who battled through
injury, when most players wouldn't. In short, Joey had the heart of
a lion. This pride and work ethic were evident every time he put on
the Seneca jersey. Off the field, Joey is a true gentleman. He
would go out of his way to ensure that others around him were taken
care of. He was always asking if help was required with anything,
and truly cared about his fellow players. To summarize, Joey was a
tremendous captain and individual.
Wayne Norrison Award
Alycia Campbell, Seneca @ York Rec Council
Alycia played a major role in the Seneca @ York Rec. Council as
President this year. She worked hard to make sure all the events
were represented and spent countless hours working behind the
sceens. Alycia also helped with the preparation and setup of both
the OCAA Women's Fastball and OCAA Men's Basketball Championship
Award Banquets. Overall, Alycia was always available when needed
and willing to take on any tasks needed.
Supreme Service Ring
Justin Franczuz, SAA President & Newnham Rec
Council
Justin served as both the SAA President and Newnham Rec Council
President for the 2012-13 academic year. This year, Justin
developed tremendously as a student and as an individual since his
first day of college. Justin was great at getting involved with
whatever events were occurring in either Athletics or Recreation.
His generosity to devote his time whenever and wherever possible
always showed through at orientations, promotional booths, OCAA
championships, campus events, residence among other things.
Wherever an Athletic & Recreation was going on, you could be
sure to see Justin lending a hand.
Female Rookie of the Year
Katie Liu, Badminton
Katie joined the Sting badminton team this year and helped to
capture the women's regional team championship as well as an OCAA
team championship and a silver medal at the OCAA championship.
Katie showed tremendous dedication to the Seneca varsity badminton
program by putting 110 percent effort at regular practices and
organizing extracurricular training with her fellow teammates. Her
trusting and lighthearted personality made her a pleasure to coach
and a welcomed addition to the Sting badminton family.
Male Rookie of the Year
Jimin Jung, Badminton
Jimin started out as a relatively unknown player on the college
badminton circuit. By the end of the season, he became infamous for
his phenomenal plays, unbelievable dives, and perfect non-moving
hair. Even with a bruised and battered body, he managed to carry
his men's doubles team to a gold medal finish at the provincial
level. Jimin's strong mind and never give up attitude makes him an
ideal model for all student-athletes.
Calmar Morgan, Men's Basketball
Calmar arrived on the scene this year and made sure his presence
was felt. Always with a smile, Calmar's work ethic was a coach's
dream. His dedication to improve showed at his consummate gym rate
working on his shooting and other facets of the game. Calmar was
the OCAA Men's Basketball East Rookie of the Year, a member of the
OCAA East Region All-Rookie Team and was named to the OCAA
Championship All-Star team.
