CAMBRIAN COLLEGE 2012-13 ATHLETIC AWARDS
Eric Leishman (Cross Country) and Shawna Metcalf (Women's Volleyball) are Cambrian College's Athletes of the Year in 2012-13.
Cambrian College bid a fond farewell to an impressive graduating class of student-athletes as the Golden Shield Varsity Athletic Banquet was recently hosted. Topping the list of award recipients were Shawna Metcalf (women's volleyball) and Eric Leishman (cross country), neither of whom were making their way to the front of the class for the first time in their illustrious careers.
Metcalf, who established new OCAA career marks in both kills and points this year, was named Female Athlete of the Year for the fourth time while Leishman, who placed fifth at provincials and helped Team Ontario to a silver medal performance at nationals, repeated as Male Athlete of the Year.
Giuseppe Politi, the man who has rapidly
transformed the Cambrian soccer programs into legitimate playoff
contenders, was recognized with the Coach of the Year award.
"Special Award" winners included Jennifer Redwood
(Vern Dow Memorial Bursary), Emilie Lavoie and
Katie Andrighetti (joint recipient of the Peter
Guy Memorial Bursary), Jesse Proctor (John Tymchuk
Award) and Natalie Taillefer and Chanelle
Gascon (joint recipients of the Sudbury Masters Running
Club Bursary).
The individual team award winners included:
Women's Soccer: Shannon Persi (MVP), Brittany Boyd Perry (MIP) and Mary-Ellen Schroeder (Rookie)
Men's Soccer: Stephane Legrand (MVP), Chad Ringstead (MIP) and Marco Armiento (Rookie)
Cross Country: Eric Leishman (MVP-Male), Tessa Zachary (MVP-Female), Kelly Nesbitt (MIP) and Angelica Garcia Hennings (Coaches)
Men's Basketball: Byron Wabano (MVP), Jesse Proctor (MIP) and Chance Goulet (Rookie)
Women's Basketball: Trish Taylor (MVP), Chantal McMahon (MIP) and Kally Watmore (Rookie)
Men's Volleyball: Braedon Keast (MVP), Chris Chedore (MIP) and Dakota Campbell (Coaches)
Women's Volleyball: Shawna Metcalf (MVP), Emilie Lavoie (MIP) and Kelsey Fielding (Coaches)
Badminton: Kaitlyn Webber (MVP-Female), Adam D'Agostino (MVP-Male), Stephen Lajambe (Coaches) and Hans Agnihotri (Rookie)
