OTTAWA - On Thursday, April 11, the end of the year athletic banquet was held at Algonquin College. The night highlighted Thunder athletes as well as coaches and team staff.

Rookie of the Year: Jenna Baldree

Men's Soccer
Rookie of the Year: Rowen Martino
MVP: Isaac Johnson
Women's Rugby
Rookie of the Year: Maya Williams
MVP: Danika McDermott
Men's Rugby
Rookie of the Year: Brian Hue
MVP: Jeremy Nesbitt
Women's Volleyball
Rookie of the Year: Alixandra Burkart
MVP: Jori Armishaw
Men's Volleyball
Rookie of the Year: Mozafar Abdoli
MVP: Philippe Yeldon
Women's Basketball
Rookie of the Year: Lindsay Whittaker
MVP: Sandre Bascoe
CCAA All-Canadians Kelly Avalos and Philippe Yeldon were highlighted as well.
The Female Athlete of the Year Award went to women's rugby star Danika McDermott. In the most grueling championship rugby match in the history of the OCAA, Danika proved herself as a true leader. Off of the field she is an exemplary student in the two-year Paramedic program.
The Male Athlete of the Year Award was given to Philippe Yeldon. In his first year at Algonquin College, he proved that he was a force to be reckoned with within the OCAA. He adds this title to his well deserved CCAA All-Canadian and OCAA Men's Volleyball Player of the Year award. Phil is currently a student in the Fitness and Health Promotion program.
The coveted Team of the Year Award was given to the Women's Rugby team. The team had an exceptional season. In just their second year they went 6-0 in their regular season and earned the title of OCAA co-champions.
Congratulations to all of the varsity athletes for their hard work and a tremendous season.
