St. Lawrence College (SLC) is pleased to announce two recent hirings in the Athletic Department, Brad Craig-Pettem as the new Athletics and Student Life Officer for the Brockville campus, and Kevin Biggs as the new Sports Information Officer.
Brad is a graduate of Trent University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. Brad continued his post-secondary studies by pursuing his Bachelor of Education. It will be a seamless transition for Brad as he has been teaching at St. Lawrence College, in the Bachelor of Science and Nursing (BScN), and Arts & Sciences programs, in addition to taking over as head coach of the SLC Brockville Schooners women's indoor soccer team in 2011-12.
"I have always had a strong passion for athletics," Brad said. "My number one goal will be to ensure that students are successful in the classroom while enjoying their extra-curricular events on campus, whether it is at the OCAA level, or recreation level."
Brad's job will be to oversee the varsity athletic clubs, intramurals, casual recreation activities, camps and manage all student staff at St. Lawrence College Brockville.
Originally from Kingston, Ont., Kevin graduated from St. Lawrence College in the Business-Marketing program, and has his Honours Bachelor Degree in Sport Management from Brock University. While completing his undergrad Kevin worked with the Niagara Ice Dogs, Kingston Frontenacs, Niagara Sport Commission, and the Thorold Blackhawks. He has been a part of major sporting events including the Grand Opening of the K-Rock Centre, 2010 FISA World Rowing Masters (St. Catharines), and a number of OFSAA tournaments.
His job will be to keep the public informed about St. Lawrence students' athletic achievements and athletic events occurring at the college's three campuses, in Kingston, Brockville and Cornwall. He will also serve as a media-relations person as he will send weekly updates on athletics news to both media outlets and through the St. Lawrence College community.
"I have always enjoyed planning and promoting sport events, so working with the athletes and clubs within the Athletics Department at St. Lawrence College will be very rewarding for me," said Kevin.
