DURHAM GOLFER WILL MITCHELL PLACES 8TH AT WORLD UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONSHIPS
Durham College standout golfer, Will Mitchell, who is the defending OCAA Collegiate Champion, placed 8th overall in the World at the 2006 World Unversity Golf Championships held September 5th thru 9th in Turin, Italy.

who is the defending OCAA Collegiate Champion, placed 8th overall
in the World at the 2006 World Unversity Golf Championships held
September 5th thru 9th in Turin, Italy.
The local native, playing with his talented Durham College Lords
team, qualified for the World University Championships by finishing
in the top 5 at the RCGA Canadian University-College National
Championships held in Thornhill this past June. Mitchell will be
entering his second year of studies at Durham College in the highly
regarded Professional Golf Management program will also enter his
second season as a part of the two-time defending OCAA Golf
Champions and CCAA Defending National Silver medalists.
The talented young golfer opened the World's with a tough 78 and
then bounced back in big time fashion with a 69 in Round two of the
4 round World event. He then posted an amazing 66 in round 3 at the
Circolo Golf Club of Torino, which was the second lowest round of
the World Championships. His final round 69 placed him 8th in the
World at total of 282 just one stroke behind Gordon Yates of Great
Britain at 281 and just 9 strokes behind the Gold Medalist Yuta
Ikeda of Japan who carded a 273. (Mitchell's scoring:

Mitchell's 282 led Team Canada in scoring and also helped lead our
Canadian contingent to a solid 4th place finish in the world (853
total) just 2 strokes behind Bronze medalists Great Britain (851).
Japan won gold with a 4 round team total of 841 while the USA took
Silver at 847.

University golf in Canada is soaring and we are very proud of Will

Canada's team consisted of the top 6 finishers at the RCGA
University-College Nationals held at Thornhill. Team Canada was
made up of Mitchell (Durham College), 20th Jade Dennnill
(University of Victoria) 72-72-72-71-287 -1, 21st ......Geoff
McLeod (University of Western Ontario) 72-74-72-71-289 +1.....28th
Blake Rowe-Sleeman (UBC) 73-72-74-72-291 +3.......34th Brad Kirton
(University of Manitoba) 74-71-72-75-292 +5, and 48th Ryan
Willoughby (McGill University) 76-72-74-76-298 +10.
An amazing accomplishment for the Durham College standout,
finishing 8th in the world at the World University Gold
Championships. The event consisted of the 15 best golf playing
countries in the world. Mitchell returns home from Italy today to
Pearson International Airport in Toronto.
