VICTORIA - Christopher Bevan of the Humber
Hawks shot a 73 on Wednesday to remain within four strokes of the
lead following Round 2 at the 2012 Canadian University/College
Championship at Cordova Bay Golf Course in Victoria.
A total of 14 student-athletes from a trio of Ontario Colleges
Athletic Association (OCAA) programs are competing this week
against the top university and collegiate golfers in Canada. In
all, 154 male and female golfers are competing for both team and
individual titles.
Bevan is currently at plus-one following two rounds, good for a
share of eighth place. He shot an opening round 70. Scott Secord of
the University of British Columbia and Simon McInnis of the
University of Waterloo lead after 36 holes at three-under par.
Durham's David Lang had the best score of any OCAA
golfer on Wednesday, shooting an even-par 71. Lang is plus-four
through two rounds, seven strokes behind Secord and McInnis.
Humber's Ben Bell, who was one of a dozen golfers
to enter Wednesday's action shooting under par, struggled with an
84.
As a team, the Hawks have a lot of work to do if they are to repeat
as men's champions. Humber is in sixth after two rounds, 27 strokes
behind first place Laval University.
Durham's Tiffany Albath shot an 81 on Wednesday
and enters Thursday's Round 3 tied for 15th, 14 strokes behind
women's front runner Devon Rizzo of the University of Waterloo.
Teammate Kayleigh Kraemer is 17 shots behind Rizzo
with a Round 2 score of 85. The Durham women's team is currently
last in the field of 12.
The top six males and top five females at the 2012 Canadian
University/College Championship will receive an exemption into the
2012 World University Golf Championships.
Round 3 of the 72-hole tournament takes place on Thursday.
Following Thursday's round, the field will be reduced to the top 10
men's and the top six women's teams, as well as any teams and
individuals within 15 strokes of the lead.
Starting times, post-round results and a full field list for the
Canadian University/College Championship are available on the Golf
Canada website.
