FANSHAWE'S LUKE EVANS WINS NATIONAL GOLD MEDAL AT CCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
Cégep André-Laurendeau took home the gold on Friday at the 2024 CCAA Golf National Championship sponsored by PING. After finishing in second the past two years, the Boomerang finally finished the job at Red Crest Golf Club.

The Boomerang just edged out Fanshawe College, winning by two strokes with a score of plus-59. Fanshawe finished at plus-61, followed by the host Humber Hawks with a score of plus-77.
Individually, it was Luke Evans (Fanshawe College) who took home the gold, finishing four-over for the tournament. After not leading for a single moment of the first three rounds, Evans shot a 70 in round four to take first place from Zach Pageau (André-Laurendeau). Pageau shot a plus-six on Friday, finishing six-over on the week and taking home silver. Rounding out the top three was Ben Landers (Fanshawe College) who shot seven-over on Friday, finishing plus-12 overall and collecting bronze.
Evans was the standout of the day. He was one of only three golfers to break par on Friday, which cemented his victory. His teammate John Van Blissen was the day's biggest riser, also shooting one-under to catapult from 14th to finish seventh.
On the women's side, it was the RSEQ-1 team that was victorious, beating the OCAA-1 squad by six strokes and shooting a plus-35 in the tournament. The OCAA-1 squad shot a plus-41, followed by OCAA-2 with a score of plus-85.
Individually, it was Rosalie Langlois (RSEQ-1) who pulled off the shocker, upsetting Jordan Newlands (OCAA-1) and collecting gold. Langlois shot a tournament-best 66 (five under par) to bring home the hardware. Newlands shot a plus-eight to finish 20-over par, bringing home silver, she was followed by Mackenzie Cloutier (RSEQ-1) who finished bronze at plus-27.
Langlois was absolutely the story of the day. She went four under on the front half and managed eight birdies on the day. Newlands had been the leader since day one and the upset was surprising and captivating to witness. Other notable performances included Elaine Surjoprajogo (OCAA-1) who's score of 73 pulled her up two spots on the leaderboard. Nate Kasowski of the NAIT Ooks and Justine Gorham of the St. Clair Saints were selected as the Men's and Women's Exemplary Leaders of the Championship respectively.
ROUND 3
The CCAA Golf National Championship presented by PING finished its third day at Red Crest Golf Club on Thursday and the leaderboards have started to take shape.
The RSEQ women's team unseated the OCAA-1 women's team for top spot, shooting a field-best 149. They currently sit 30 strokes above par. The aforementioned OCAA-1 sits two strokes back at plus-32 and the ACAC-1 still sits in a distant third at 62 strokes over par.
Jordan Newlands (OCAA-1) still sits in first place with a score of plus-12 after shooting a 75. Rosalie Langlois (RSEQ-1) is a stroke behind in second with a strong 72 on Thursday. She is followed by Mackenzie Cloutier (RSEQ-1), at plus-17.
Langlois was the riser of the day, shooting a field-best plus-one and rising two spots, from fourth to second, she passed OCAA-1's Susan Chen and RSEQ-1 teammate Mackenzie Cloutier.
On the men's side, Zach Pageau (André-Laurendeau) still sits in first. Pageau sits even on the tournament after shooting two-under on Thursday. Fanshawe College's Luke Evans is in a tie for second place with teammate Ben Landers. Evans shot a 71 on Thursday and Landers a 72; both men sit five-over par for the tournament.
Overall, Cégep André-Laurendeau sits in first place with a score of plus-42. They have a commanding 12-shot lead over Fanshawe College who sit in second at plus-50. Cégep Champlain St. Lawrence is in third at plus-62; the school had its best day of the tournament, shooting 10 shots better than yesterday, and 19 better than they did on Tuesday.
Owen Laverty (St. Clair College) and Cory Pharand (Durham College) were the risers of the day, both men rose 10 spots, with Laverty currently sitting in a tie for 29th and Pharand in 31st. Mason Gorski (NAIT) was the story of the day though. Gorski shot a field-best 68 to catapult himself into sixth place. Gorski was in 15th to start the day and now sits only a stroke out of the top five coming into the final round.
The fourth and final round of the CCAA Golf National Championship will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday. Trey Ross (Humber College), Colton Day (Georgian College), and Steven Hill (St. Clair College) will tee off on hole one and Jeremy Hart (SAIT), Quin Doherty (Durham College), and Tanner Visser (NAIT) will tee off on hole 10.
It is projected to be nine degrees in King, Ont., tomorrow morning and 17 in the afternoon. There is a zero per cent chance of rain and the wind will gust to less than 15 km/h.
ROUND 2

Zach Pageau (Cégep André-Laurendeau) took sole possession of first place, breaking the tie with Fanshawe College's Luke Evans with a score of 73. Ben Landers (Fanshawe College) sits in second place, totaling four over par, and Michael Valk (Medicine Hat College) is in third at five over par.
Overall, the Andre Laurendeau Boomerang leads by nine strokes at plus-34. Fanshawe College sits in second at plus-43, followed by the host Humber College at plus-50. Cégep André-Laurendeau led the field today, scoring a tournament-low 299.
One remarkable jump of the day belonged to Raphael Vézina-Ouellet (Cégep André-Laurendeau), who shot seven strokes better than yesterday and rose from 24th to 19th. The day's story, though, was St. Clair College's Spencer Higginbottom, who shot a field-best 71, two-under par. He currently sits in sixth place after starting the day in 18th.
On the women's side, Jordan Newlands (OCAA-1) still leads the way. She shot a 77 on Wednesday and is eight-over for the tournament. Susan Chen (OCAA-1) is two shots behind at plus-10, and Mackenzie Cloutier (RSEQ-1) is a shot behind in third.
Ella Dolan (ACAC-1) was the biggest riser of the day, showing resilience after a tough round one, she shot a 76 on Wednesday, pulling her from 11th to a tie for seventh.
Overall, it's OCAA-1 who lead the field with a gross score of plus-18. RSEQ-1 is in second with a cumulative score of plus-23 and the ACAC-1 is in third at plus-41.
Round three will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday. It's projected to be six degrees in King, Ont., on Thursday morning and 15 in the afternoon. There is no chance of precipitation and the wind is projected to be a non-factor at less than 10 km/s.

On the men's side sits a two-way tie between Zach Pageau (André-Laurendeau) and Fanshawe College's Luke Evans; both men sit even at 71 through 18. There is also a tie for third, with Michael Valk (Medicine Hat College) and Ben Landers (Fanshawe College) sitting two-over par.
Fanshawe College and Cégep André-Laurendeau also lead the men's teams with combined scores of plus-14. The host, Humber Polytechnic, sits in third overall with a combined score of plus-26.
For the women, Jordan Newlands (OCAA-1) leads by a shot at plus-two. Humber Polytechnic's Susan Chen sits at three over, followed by Rosalie Langlois (RSEQ-1) at plus-five.
Overall, Humber Polytechnic leads the field significantly, sitting at five over for the day. The RSEQ-1 women's team sits in second at plus-12, followed by the ACAC women's No. 1 team at plus-26.
Round 2 begins at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. Ella Dolan (NAIT) and Kiara Reesor (Medicine Hat College) will tee off on hole one, and Jordan Newlands (OCAA-1), Justine Gorham (OCAA-2), and Rosalie Langlois (RSEQ-1) will tee off on hole 10. The weather in King will be five degrees and overcast in the morning and eight degrees in the afternoon; there is a 30 per cent chance of rain.
