SHERIDAN NO. 1 IN OCAA MEN’S BASKETBALL RANKINGS
TORONTO - The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) men’s basketball regular season is open for business, with a rematch of last season’s OCAA gold medal game already in the books.

1. Sheridan Bruins
The Sheridan Bruins (2-0) didn't waste anytime earning payback
against the defending OCAA champions, defeating Humber at home
87-84 on Saturday in a rematch of last season's title game. As a
result, Sheridan soars to the top of the OCAA rankings.
Khalid Abdel-Gabar drained a pair of three
pointers in the final 30 seconds to give Sheridan the victory. He
scored 15 points in total against the Hawks.
Sheridan began its season with a 88-79 home win over Fanshawe on
Wednesday. Abdel-Gabar led all players with 22 points, while
contributing 13 rebounds for a double-double.
Sheridan hits the road for three straight, beginning at No. 7
Mohawk on Friday.
2. Humber Hawks
Before losing to Sheridan, Humber (1-1) opened its season with a
96-68 win over No. 7 Mohawk. Mark Perrin earned a
double-double for the Hawks with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Daviau Rodney scored a team-high 17 points
against Sheridan.
Humber visits No. 5 Fanshawe on Wednesday before hosting Redeemer
on Friday.
3. Algonquin Thunder
The Algonquin Thunder (1-0) defeated Seneca at home 64-38 on
Saturday to begin their regular season.
Derrek Mooney scored 16 points while grabbing
eight rebounds to lead the Thunder to the win.
Algonquin hosts three games in four days beginning Wednesday. The
Thunder entertain La Cite, St. Lawrence-Kingston and Cambrian.
4. Centennial Colts
Centennial (2-0) has jumped out with two wins to begin its regular
season. The Colts defeated Durham 77-57 in Wednesday's home opener,
followed by a 102-41 road victory over Cambrian on Saturday.
Liban Hassan scored 22 points to lead the Colts
past Durham. Theon Reefer scored 29 points in the
win against Cambrian.
Centennial remains on the road with games at Seneca on Tuesday and
Georgian on Saturday.
5. Fanshawe Falcons
Defending OCAA bronze medalist Fanshawe (1-1) began its season
with a loss at Sheridan, but picked up a 102-43 road win at Lambton
on Friday.
Mike Dubreuil led all players with a 21-point
effort against Lambton. Teammate Jordan Dixon led
the Falcons with 17 points against Sheridan.
Fanshawe hosts No. 2 Humber on Wednesday before traveling to No. 6
Niagara on Saturday.
6. Niagara Knights
The Niagara Knights (2-0) picked up two home wins to begin their
OCAA regular season, including an 87-81 overtime victory against
No. 8 Algoma on Sunday.
Rashad Morley was one rebound short of a
double-double, scoring 26 points against Algoma.
Niagara opened its season with a 90-47 win over Sault.
Alex Campbell led the Knights with 14 points.
Niagara visits No. 7 Mohawk on Wednesday before hosting No. 5
Fanshawe on Saturday.
7. Mohawk Mountaineers
Mohawk (1-1) dropped a 96-68 decision at Humber on Tuesday, but
got one in the win column with a 98-66 home victory over St. Clair
on Friday.
Aminu Bello was an offensive stud for Mohawk
against St. Clair, draining 33 points. Alex Reis
led Mohawk with 20 points in a losing effort against Humber.
Mohawk hosts No. 6 Niagara on Wednesday and No. 1 Sheridan on
Friday.
8. Algoma Thunderbirds
Algoma (1-1) split a pair of games on the road, defeating Redeemer
87-33 on Saturday, followed by a 87-81 overtime loss at Niagara on
Sunday.
Mark Wortham scored 18 points off the bench
against Redeemer. Teammate Dele Oworu grabbed 26
rebounds and added 19 points for a double-double against
Niagara.
Algoma plays its first home games of the regular season when it
hosts St. Clair and Lambton this weekend.
9. George Brown Huskies
George Brown (1-0) opened its regular season with a 51-45 road win
at St. Lawrence-Kingston on Friday.
Salissou Abdoulkader led the Huskies with 15
points, while George Brown teammate Quinlan Veira
contributed 14.
George Brown hosts No. 10 Fleming in its home opener on Wednesday,
followed by a trip to Loyalist on Friday.
10. Fleming Knights
Fleming (1-0) opened its season with a 78-64 home win against
Loyalist on Wednesday.
Two Knights earned double-doubles in the victory. Max
Clarkson contributed 21 points and 10 rebounds, while
Alex Holland scored 18 points while adding 11
boards.
Fleming visits No. 9 George Brown on Wednesday.
