GEORGIAN 74, DURHAM 73 (FINAL)
OSHAWA, Ont. – Georgian College pulled up an improbable victory on varsity spirit night at the CRWC as they defeated the Durham Lords 74-73 in OCAA men's basketball action.
Trailing by one point with four seconds left in the game, Mark Brown of the Georgian Grizzlies was fouled and sent to the charity stripe.
With the crowd on their feet making as much noise as possible, Brown would step up to the line and miss both free throws. The rebound would bounce off about five players and find its' way back to Brown who threw up an off-balanced shot at the buzzer. The ball would ricochet of the backboard and into the net, sending the Georgian bench onto the court in celebration as they pulled off the upset win.
With the victory, Georgian sweeps the season series again Durham as they beat the Lords 79-66 in Barrie earlier in the year.
Durham, Georgian and St. Lawrence are tied for third place in the OCAA east region as all three teams have nine wins apiece. St. Lawrence trails the group with eight wins but have a game in hand.
The Lords defence had no answer for Shane Rowe who drained a game high 28 points in the win.
Christoff Pierre was Durham's leading scorer for the second straight game as he recorded 17 points. Byron Wabano and Rob Gagliardi had 14 points apiece.
Durham's next action will be in Toronto as they face the George Brown Huskies on Wednesday, February 8. Game time is at 8 p.m.
