ST. CLAIR 89, REDEEMER 83
St. Clair (5-12) defeated Redeemer (6-11) by a score of 89-83.
A tight contest throughout, Redeemer pulled in front after an 11-2 run to close the first quarter up 22-18.
St. Clair answered to open the second quarter with a 15-0 run of its own and led 41-35 at halftime. The Saints maintained a slim lead in the third quarter but in the fourth quarter Redeemer, although playing with a short bench, stepped up their full-court pressure and attempted to steal the game.
St. Clair was able to thwart the comeback thanks to a superior shooting percentage from the field (51 to 46 percent), behind the three-point arc (43 to 39 percent) and at the free-throw line (76 to 63 percent).
Aaron Evans (Windsor, Ont.) and Matt Nuna (Windsor, Ont.) each scored 19 points to pace the St. Clair backcourt and controlled the game. Nuna added six assists and shot an impressive 9-of-10 from the charity stripe including 5-of-6 down the stretch to ice the game.
Alex Temesy (Amherstburg, Ont.) had the most balanced game with 17 points and 12 rebounds for the double-double and added 6 assists. Isiah McConney (Leamington, Ont.) excited the Saints faithful with a pair of dunks as part of his 12 points adding four rebounds in just over nine minutes of game time.
David Younan (Leamington, Ont.) maintained his rebounding average with 11 to go with three steals but was unable to scratch the score sheet. Redeemer's Calvin Turnbull scored a game high 23 points in a losing effort for his team.
The St. Clair men's basketball team will host Mohawk (Hamilton) Wednesday, Feb. 13 in their final home regular season game of the season with tip time at 8 p.m.
