REDEEMER 77, FANSHAWE 67
The Redeemer Royals upset the Fanshawe Falcons 77-67 in OCAA men's basketball on Wednesday night.
It was the fourth consecutive loss for the Falcons who fall to 12-6 and are now in a four way tie for third place in the West Division.
The Falcons trailed 18-14 after the first quarter before Boyd Vassell sparked a 6-0 run early in the second. Vassell had 10 of the Falcons first 20 points in the game.
The teams continued battling back and forth and Fanshawe took the final four points of the half to lead 38-34.
The Falcons came out strong in the third and built the lead to eight. Redeemer answered back with strong outside shooting which found the game tied at 52 after three quarters of play.
An 11-2 run by Redeemer opened up a nine-point lead midway through the fourth. The Falcons got to within six but were unable to get any closer.
Boyd Vassell led the Falcons with 21 points in the game. Calvin Turnbull played 39 minutes and scored 29 points and 12 rebounds for Redeemer.
This Saturday night at 8 p.m., the Falcons will play host to the Algoma Thunderbirds (11-6).
