LOYALIST 93, ST. LAWRENCE (K) 64
BELLEVILLE, Ont. - Having defeating the Lancers 74-59 earlier in the season, the St. Lawrence College men's basketball team wanted to once again, upset the Loyalist College Lancers.
However this time, Loyalist College came to play, taking complete control of the game right from tip off and never looked back, winning the game 93-64. Loyalist is coming off of a thrilling one-point upset victory over Seneca College on Jan. 11.
At the end of the first quarter, the Vikings were down 19-15, but several turnovers and missed opportunities cost the Vikings down the stretch, as the lead was pushed to an 18-point differential.
"Our effort was not there tonight. We needed this game to keep up in the East and we were flat," said Vikings head coach Barry Smith.
With Loyalist and Seneca College currently tied for fifth in the Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA) East Division, the Vikings remain only two points back, but are in a three-way tie with La Cité, and Durham College for the final playoff spot. SLC will need a handful of upset victories in the final half of the season to create some breathing space in what has become a very competitive and close East Division.
The Vikings next game will take place Friday, Jan. 24 at 8 p.m., when SLC will host the George Brown College Huskies.
