Seneca College will host the 2005
Eastern Canadian Collegiate Rugby Championships on Sunday,
November 13, 2005 at the Markham Rugby Club (Austin Rd, north of
Hwy 7, between Kennedy and McCowan). The 12noon kickoff will see
the Ontario Champion Seneca Sting (North York) and the Quebec
Champion John Abbott Islanders (Montreal, Quebec) face off in a one
match winner take all affair.
The Seneca Sting enter the championship riding a remarkable 43
match - 5 year winning streak, and look to defend their Eastern
Canadian Championship from 2004. The 2005 Sting were a perfect 8-0
on the season, winning the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association
(OCAA) Championship and OCAA League Championship. Led by OCAA
Scoring Champion Eric Hannah, OCAA Championship
MVP Aaron Graham and OCAA Coach of the Year
Bob McArthur, the Sting will provide the Islanders
with stiff competition and represent Ontario well.
The Islanders were 9-1 the season, winning their second consecutive
Quebec Championship. The Islanders were a dominant force in the
FQSE league. By far, scoring more points than any other team and
allowing the least points allowed. Demonstrating a strong offensive
and stiffling defense, the Islanders will no doubt be ready to
exact a little revenge following their loss to Seneca in 2004.
