MOHAWK ONE WIN FROM SUCCESSFUL TITLE DEFENCE
HAMILTON, Ont. - The Mohawk Mountaineers defeated the Trent Excalibur 54-17 in the OCAA men’s rugby semifinal on Saturday.
HAMILTON, Ont. - The Mohawk Mountaineers defeated the Trent
Excalibur 54-17 in the OCAA men’s rugby semifinal on
Saturday.
Combined with its regular season record, Mohawk is 8-0 in 2010.
OCAA leading scorer Chris VanSickle (Brantford, Ont.) led the way
with a try and seven converts for a game-high 19 points. The
second-year centre scored 122 points during the 2010 regular
season. Seven other Mountaineers scored tries against Trent,
including second-year prop Dan Wall (Big Lake, Ont.), first-year
hooker Phil Jackson (Stoney Creek, Ont.), first-year player Eric
Moyer (Brantford, Ont.), first-year 8 man Graham McKelvey
(Brantford, Ont.), second-year scrum half Joel Clarke (Sarnia,
Ont.), second-year standoff Alex Houston (Stoney Creek, Ont.) and
second-year centre Joshua Moore (Port Hope, Ont.).
First-year players Adam Anderson and Josh Deck scored tries for
Trent in a losing effort. Daniel Santos make both converts, and
added a penalty goal.
Mohawk will battle Humber once again for the OCAA Division I
men’s rugby championship this Sunday at Fletcher’s
Fields in Markham, Ont. Mohawk defeated Humber 16-15 in last
year’s final.
Trent will take on Seneca in the bronze medal game.
