GEORGIAN 32, SHERIDAN 3
BARRIE, Ont. - John Daggett won his head coaching debut as the
Georgian Grizzlies overcame a slow start to defeat the Sheridan
Bruins 32-3 in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) men's
rugby action this afternoon.
The Bruins, who are making their debut in OCAA rugby, opened the
scoring on a penalty kick from Brandon Campbell. The Grizzlies
responded with a try from Austin St. Amant that was converted by
Paul Marshall to give Georgian a 7-3 lead. Just before half-time,
Marshall was good on penalty kick from 30 yards out that allowed
the Grizzlies to enjoy a 10-3 lead after 40 minutes.
The Grizzlies settled down in the second half and were able to
break through the Bruin defence to score four tries. Marshall
touched the ball down twice, while St. Amant added his second of
the game. Robin Calamatta was the other Grizzly to score.
"We had a slow start, but we made some adjustments at half-time
and I think we wore them down in the second half," said
Daggett.
Next game for the Grizzlies will be on Sunday, September 23 at
1:00 p.m. at the Barrie Community Sports Complex against the
Conestoga Condors.
