TORONTO - The six post-season men's rugby teams are set in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA), with a pair of sudden-death quarter-final matches planned for this weekend.
The Durham Lords (6-0) and Humber Hawks (5-1) earned a bye into next weekend's semifinals finishing No. 1 and 2 in the regular season standings, respectively. The next four teams in the standings will play Saturday and Sunday with match-ups based on seeding.
Three rounds of playoffs will take place over the next three weekends, ending with the OCAA gold and bronze medal matches taking place Nov. 15-16. All post-season matches will be hosted by the higher seeded team.
Both matches will be streamed on OCAA LIVE.
Seneca Sting, Toronto (2-4, 5th OCAA) at Conestoga Condors, Kitchener (3-3, 4th OCAA)
Saturday, Nov. 1 - 1 p.m.
The Conestoga Condors were stuck in a win one, lose one pattern for the entirety of their regular season. The Condors are willing to see this pattern continue for another week, coming off a loss in their regular season finale.
Third-year flank Carson Briggs (Waterloo) and third-year teammate Jackson Mcdonald-Inglis (Brussels) are the Condors co-leaders in tries scoring seven each.
The Seneca Sting are coming off a victory in their regular season finale. The Sting's season also followed a pattern, going 1-2 in both September and October.
Fourth-year fly half Kyle Moller (Pretoria, South Africa) is Seneca's top offensive weapon scoring 57 points on four tries, 17 converts and one penalty kick.
These two teams did not meet in the regular season.
St. Lawrence Surge, Kingston (2-4, 6th OCAA) at Georgian Grizzlies, Barrie (5-1, 3rd OCAA)
Sunday, Nov. 2 - 1 p.m.
The Georgian Grizzlies roll into the post-season on a high having won three straight matches. Scoring a league-high 299 points in six matches, they have also allowed an OCAA-low 79 points against and could be a dark horse in the playoffs.
Second-year centre Kade Rennie (Colllingwood) led the Grizzlies in scoring during the regular season with 70 points on seven tries, 16 converts and one penalty kick.
The St. Lawrence Surge had a winless September before reeling off two straight wins to save their season. The Surge lost their season finale 67-19 to the same Grizzlies they play on Sunday.
First-year student-athlete Alex Arsenault (Prince Edward County) and third-year veteran Cameron Marineau (Kingston) were the co-leaders in points for St. Lawrence during the regular season with five tries each.
Third-year lock Parker England (Barrie) scored three tries in Georgian's victory over the Surge on Oct. 26.
