ANCASTER, Ont. - The St. Clair College men's varsity soccer team has clinched a spot in the OCAA playoffs along with an all important home playoff game.
The Saints travelled to Ancaster, Ont. on Saturday to take on the Redeemer Royals and came away with an important 2-0 win.
St. Clair went up 1-0 on a nice goal by Jordan Lidia (Cardinal Carter) in the 28th minute. The Saints had a chance to go ahead 2-0 just before the half but Gabriel Poulino (Catholic Central) was denied on a penalty kick by the Redeemer keeper.
Poulino redeemed himself in the 49th minute scoring to make it 2-0. St. Clair played solid defence for the rest of the game to seal the win. Justin Danelon (Holy Names) was solid in net in picking up the win and shutout.
The win guaranteed St. Clair will finish in fourth place in the very tough OCAA West Division. The Saints ended their regular season with a record of 4-2-2. By finishing in fourth place, St. Clair will host the fifth place West Division team on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 4 p.m. at the United Communities Credit Union Complex in Amherstburg.
