NUNES HEADLINES OCAA MEN'S SOCCER AWARDS

HAMILTON, Ont. - Humber College's Marcos Nunes (Brampton) is the 2016 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Men's Soccer Player of the Year. He received the award in a ceremony held in Hamilton, Ont., on Thursday morning.

The fourth-year forward was the Central Division Scoring Champion this past regular season, scoring 10 goals in nine matches. Nunes scored in all but two games he participated in. Humber was a perfect 10-0-0 during the regular season to win the Central Division title.

Along with his player of the year award, Nunes is also an OCAA All-Star and a Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Canadian.

St. Clair's Stefan Milidrag (Windsor) is also an CCAA All-Canadian. The third-year forward led his club with nine goals in 10 matches as St. Clair won the West Division championship with a 7-1-2 record. Milidrag is also an OCAA All-Star.

The CCAA coach of the year nominee from OCAA is Mike Baraslievski of St. Clair. After an opening loss, St. Clair went undefeated in its next nine matches to earn a bye into the OCAA quarter-finals. St. Clair has won 14 matches the last two regular seasons. Baraslievski is also the West Division Coach of the Year.

Fanshawe's Robert M'Boko (London) is the OCAA Scoring Champion. The third-year forward scored nine goals in eight matches for a league-best goals per game average of 1.13 (minimum six matches). M'Boko was also given a certificate as the West Division Scoring Champion and is an OCAA All-Star.

George Brown's Jo-horus Toutou (Brampton) is the OCAA Overall Rookie of the Year. He scored four goals in eight matches as George Brown improved from a 2-5-3 a year ago to 5-4-1 and a second place finish. Toutou was also given a certificate as Central Division Rookie of the Year.

Durham second-year defender Cody Kraemer (Whitby), Humber fourth-year defender Kingsley Boasiako (Brampton) and St. Clair third-year defender Mitchell Hunter (Woodslee) were named OCAA Defensive Players of the Year in their respective divisions. Boasiako and Hunter were also named OCAA All-Stars.

Along with Nunes and M'Boko, another OCAA Scoring Champion was honoured. Algonquin's Marco Natoli (Ottawa) led the East Division with 10 goals in 10 games. The second-year forward is also an OCAA All-Star.

In addition to Toutou, two other OCAA Rookies of the Year were named. Centennial's Taejon Mikle-Ryan (Whitby) is the top first-year player in the East Division. The centre back played in nine league matches this season. Mohawk striker Andrew Hodgkinson (Hamilton) is the top rookie in the West Division. He played in 10 games, scoring once.

Mike Gagliano of Algonquin is the OCAA East Division Coach of the Year. The Thunder won 10 straight regular season games under Gagliano's leadership en route to an East Division championship. Humber's Michael Aquino is the OCAA Central Division Coach of the Year. Under Aquino's leadership, the Hawks won 10 consecutive matches in the regular season to win the Central Division Championship.

The three division champions were also the top defensive teams for 2016. East Division champion Algonquin allowed just five goals against in 10 games; Central Division champion Humber gave up four goals in 10 games; and West Division champion St. Clair allowed seven goals in 10 matches.

Several OCAA All-Stars were also recognized. In addition to Natoli, OCAA East Division All-Stars include Algonquin's Alex Asmis (Dunrobin), Yusuf Dahir (Ottawa), Maher Husseini (Ottawa), Anthony Legendre (Ottawa) and Dylan Tessier (Ottawa); Durham's Bruce Cullen (Pickering) and Austin MacDonnell (Greenwood); Fleming's Joey Penello (Fraserville) and Josh Penello (Fraserville); and St. Lawrence-Kingston's Jared Savory (Kingston).

In addition to Nunes and Boasiako, OCAA Central Division All-Stars include Humber's Daniele Clemente (Toronto), Jaineil Hoilett (Brampton), Gerardo Magno (Brampton), Karman Singh (Etobicoke) and Jerome Smith (Bolton); George Brown's Shaquille Agard (Toronto) and Jesse Oliver (Trinidad & Tobago); Seneca's Tajmir Ashraq (Scarborough); and Sheridan's Daniel Pereira (Brampton).

Joining Milidrag, M'Boko and Hunter as OCAA West Division All-Stars are Fanshawe's Matt Catalano (London) and Brandon Mendes (London); Lambton's Zach Moniz (St. Thomas); Mohawk's Jordan Campanelli (Hamilton); Redeemer's Noah Murray (Georgetown); and St. Clair's Bogdan Ionita (Windsor), Leighton Speechley-Price (United Kingdom) and Stefan Zastavnikovic (Windsor).
